Sauna, Sweat & Massage: The Ultimate Self-Care Combo
I’ve been into saunas for years. It’s one of those simple but powerful wellness tools that can make a huge immediate difference in how you feel. Whether it’s for relaxation, detox, or recovery, I love the way a good sweat can shift my energy. So much so that I even brought my portable sauna tent on a girls' weekend last year and I’ve taken it on caravan holiday’s too.
My Sauna Detox Journey
I first looked into the niacin sauna detox protocol a couple of years ago. The idea behind it is that you take niacin (Vitamin B3 that helps release stored toxins), get in a sauna, and and get your sweat on. Sounds straightforward, right? Well, I made it about a week before I experienced herxing (intense detox symptoms) and had to stop, since I was visiting family back in Rugby.
Recently, though, a client mentioned they’d invested in a sauna blanket, and it’s reignited my interest in sauna detox. The protocol I followed in 2021 was quite involved, but there are more accessible ways to integrate sauna into daily wellness routines. I’m feeling the pull to revisit it in a way that’s manageable and sustainable.
The Benefits of Sauna + Massage
One of my favourite things is pairing a sauna session with massage therapy. It’s a match made in relaxation heaven! A sauna before a massage helps loosen the muscles, making it easier to release tension, while a post-massage sauna session can enhance circulation and aid recovery.
My dream setup would be a full-sized Clearlight sauna at home, but for now, my wee firzone tent sauna does the job just fine. Whether it’s a pre-massage warm-up or a post-massage detox, heat therapy and bodywork together can do wonders for stress, tightness, and overall well-being.
My Ideal Wellness Routine
If I had my way, my perfect self-care day would look like this:
A gentle warm-up, of some mobility and body strength work at home.
A run through the park or along the river to get the blood flowing.
A hot sauna session to relax and sweat out toxins.
A cold bath or shower to invigorate the body and seal in the benefits.
Yesterday morning, I managed a run-sauna-cold shower combo, and I can confirm—it works wonders! Any stress or sluggishness I felt was completely lifted.
Want to Create Your Own Ritual?
If you’re curious about integrating sauna therapy with massage, it’s an incredible way to amplify the benefits of both. Regular massage helps keep the body moving freely, while heat therapy supports detox, circulation, and relaxation.
A great place to start is with our 3-Session Wellness Package – three full sessions for £165. It’s perfect if you want to commit to your self-care and experience the long-term benefits of massage.
